About Mock Turtle

Mock Turtle Marionette Theater is a non-profit 501(C)(3) organization established in 1978. As a touring children’s theater, Mock Turtle has performed some four thousand shows chiefly in the Mid-Atlantic Region.   The theater’s role as a touring company reached a high point with multiple engagements at the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, and the 2015 New York Fringe Festival.

Under the leadership of puppet-maker and Artistic Director Doug Roysdon, Mock Turtle has evolved to a large degree from a touring company to a production company.  Over the past ten years, the theater has engaged in a series of some twenty educational and artistic collaborations.   Among these collaborations have been major productions with Lehigh University, the Bach Choir of Bethlehem and Touchstone Theatre.

In addition to its development as a production company, Mock Turtle has been intensely invested in the local of cultural community of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.  Working from the company’s loft theater at the IceHouse Performing Arts Center, Mock Turtle has developed the IceHouse Tonight performance series for local and regional artists and the South Side Children’s Festival, a teaching artist cooperative.  The theater’s engagement in the local culture has led to the launching of the cultural place-making website.
